Saturday Sandwich at Savoy

4 Mar

This Saturday, I had a longer than usual work break so I visited my favorite gluten-free sandwich spot, Savoy Cafe and Deli. I had the Gaviota on the GF bread and then a gluten-free chocolate chip cookie for dessert.

Ordering this cookie was a very good decision as it was especially good. While I was there, I noticed the signs up advertising the fact that they will be featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives tomorrow, March 5th, at 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM. From their facebook site:

Savoy Cafe is going to be on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives and to celebrate we are throwing a party! We will be doing two showings, one at 7:00pm and at 10:00pm, with music from Joan and Tonic and specials in between. It’s going to be a night you don’t want to miss. See you then!

We have already set our DVR to capture it! Have you?

Picnic and the Zoo

29 Feb

It had been awhile since I had seen my friend and her adorable baby so we decided to have a picnic in Alice Keck Park and then go to the zoo! I brought us gluten-free sandwiches made on Udi’s bread from Whole Foods. They were incredibly good.

Is that not the cutest baby you have ever seen? He rolled around a bit while we devoured the sandwiches. For dessert, I brought some cookies that I saw at the store.

These reminded me of a thicker version of the Entenmann’s cookies that we had in our house growing up. They were chewy and had a really good taste. After our picnic, we headed to the zoo to see some animals.

This giraffe just wanted to hang out with us, even following us as we were starting to leave! It was fun to see young Daniel, the giraffe, and the newest resident, Michael. Next time, we may just have the picnic at the zoo since there is plenty of grass to spread out on!

Lunch in Ojai

13 Jan

I had a whole day with nothing planned which felt phenomenal. I thought it was the perfect opportunity to do some exploring in Ojai. I took the CA-150 Route since I previously had only gone via CA-33. It was to my surprise and delight that I found views like the picture above. The road takes you right along Lake Casitas which is just beautiful with the mountains set around it. Once it Ojai, my mom and I did some exploring. There are a bunch of shops which were fun to look in. When it was time to eat, we ended up going to a natural food store that had a cafe called Rainbow Bridge. When I asked if they had gluten-free bread available for their sandwiches, the lady behind the counter told me that they had Udi’s! Woohoo!

I got a veggie sandwich that had avocado, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, carrots and sprouts. It was the perfect veggie sandwich. I definitely want to return to Ojai to try some of the restaurants in the area that I have read about.

Whole Foods Sandwich

2 Jan

We went to see The Descendants tonight at the Hitchcock Way Movie Theater. Go see this movie while it is still in the theaters. It was the perfect combination of funny and sad. Afterwards, we decided to pick up some dinner from Whole Foods. I went to the sandwich counter and asked if they could make a sandwich with GF bread. The guy said that he could. When I asked what kind of bread they use, he said Udi’s which made me really excited since their sandwich bread is great. However, it turned out he used Ener-G’s Tapioca Bread since they had an open package of it. It was pretty thin and crumbly and made me think that this is what most gluten eaters think all GF bread tastes like. The fillings were tasty though. I will definitely go back and try another sandwich on a day that they use Udi’s, especially since the guy was great about changing his gloves and being careful about cross contamination.

Savoy Cafe and Deli Part 2

14 Oct

I know I was just at Savoy yesterday, but I couldn’t curb my enthusiasm for a gluten-free sandwich in Santa Barbara. I got the Lorraine which included avocado, tomato, cucumber, sprouts, lettuce, cheddar and dijon on toasted GF bread. YUM.
