Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba

7 Sep

When we sat down to eat at Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba in Chicago, I was given a gluten-free menu. It turns out that this restaurant is part of the Lettuce Entertain You Restaurant Group, just like Mity Nice. Is this a gluten-free friendly company or what? I started with the Summer Market Vegetable Salad.

I loved that there were beets in this salad. It was lightly dressed with lemon and olive oil. I then had the fried green peppers and coarse salt.

Our waiter assured me that these were made in a pan to avoid cross contamination in their typical frying oil. The last thing I ordered was the shrimp with garlic, olive oil and red pepper flakes.

I loved the fact that there was so much garlic and oil in this dish. I made sure to put it all to good use with the gluten-free bread that I was given!

True Food Kitchen

30 Jun

We went down to Santa Monica to do some furniture shopping for the day. After working up an appetite, we found a place called True Food Kitchen which is also known as my new favorite restaurant. I started with the Cucumber Refresher which was incredibly refreshing. I then had the gluten-free sundried tomato and corn pizza. It had poblanos, goat cheese and a kale pesto. This was unbelievably delicious. Every day since I had this pizza I have found myself daydreaming about it. It was that good. My husband ordered the mediterranean salad.

It had cucumber, olives, cherry tomatoes, quinoa, feta, marcona almonds and a lemon oregano vinaigrette. This was also really good.

Ventana Grill

30 Jun

Summer to me means that it is time to take fun day trips to new places. I had always wanted to go to the sand dunes in Pismo Beach, so this week we headed up there. We rented our buggy and then made our way to the actual dunes. It was quite terrifying not knowing what was on the other side of a dune. After working up an appetite, we headed to Ventana Grill, where I was presented with a gluten-free menu.

I ended up getting the Ventana chopped salad which said it had chicken, romaine hearts, granny smith apples, roma tomatoes, roasted poblanos, caramelized corn, red onions, cotija, cilantro and a cumin dijon dressing. When I received it though, there were tortilla chips on top of it.

I asked our waiter and he assured me that they were GF, but I was still a bit wary since they weren’t on the GF menu. At least we had a beautiful view from our table to ease my food anxiety!

A GF-Labeled Menu Makes for a Happy Celiac

5 May

It is always so relaxing to eat at Sojourner Cafe since gluten-free items are clearly marked on the menu. The other night, we started with the Tortilla Flats. I then had an item on the specials menu. It was tofu with a sweet red chile sauce.

This was good but I struggled to finish it. However, I did manage to find room for one of their GF chocolate chip cookies.

The consistency was a little off, but the taste of this was good.

Silvergreen’s GF Menu

21 Mar

Silvergreens just made it a whole lot easier to order if you have to eat on a gluten-free diet. When we went tonight, I was pleasantly surprised to receive the menu above. I ended up getting a half sandwich with a cup of soup. The Tillamook Grilled Chicken sandwich was wrapped in lettuce and included grilled chicken, Tillamook cheddar, tomatoes, red onions and mayo. I chose the potato cheddar for my soup. Potatoes and cheese are always a fantastic combination. It is just so nice to be able to go to a restaurant that has been proactive in accommodating the gluten-free diet!
